Alsop Trophy - match report

Alsop Trophy – Yorkshire BA vs Northumberland BA
Date: Saturday 7 June 2025

Venue: Northallerton Bowling Club

Result: Yorkshire win – 3 rinks to 3 (aggregate: 124–121)

Points: Yorkshire 16 – 6 Northumberland

Yorkshire made a positive start to their 2025 Alsop Trophy campaign which ended up a narrow aggregate win over Northumberland at Northallerton BC. With the rinks split 3–3, it was Yorkshire’s strength on the winning rinks that proved decisive, securing the overall result by a margin of three shots.
After early rain, conditions improved steadily, with most of the match played in dry and bright weather.

Winning rinks:
• Bailey – 27–17

• Lien – 26–12

• Baker – 23–16

Losing rinks:
• Turk – 16–25

• Britton – 17–25

• Bratton – 15–26

Turk’s rink had positioned themselves well, leading 16–7 through 14 ends and appearing on course to add to Yorkshire’s tally. However, a dropped five on the 15th end allowed Northumberland back into the contest, triggering a late swing that turned a strong position into a missed opportunity.

Notable strong performances on the day by Williamson and Barton (Yorkshire debut)

While the result gives Yorkshire early points on the board it is essential that we start to bank extra rink wins if we wish to lift the trophy.

Attention now turns to a four-rink away fixture v Lancashire at Southport BC on Saturday 21st June 2025, where the we look to build on this performance.
